tools to keep you out of court

A comment from Hawaii about the Short Divorce Course

Aloha, Divorce Helpline!

I am from Hawaii, and although I wish I could use the many helpful tools you have provided for a California divorce, I am still grateful to you and your Web site for providing the Short Divorce Course.

I was about to sign a divorce settlement prepared by my husband’s attorney, when I realized that something was not right. I had retained my own attorney and put all my trust and faith in him, but I eventually felt that he had done nothing to provide for my financial well-being.

Sure enough, I bought some divorce books, did some reading, and realized that I had not only hired the wrong attorney, but also that I had been going about the divorce process in the wrong way. Your short course set me on the right track to using an attorney as a consultant instead of retaining one.

You can’t imagine how relieved I am to know that it is OK for us to do this. That was actually what I had been doing with my attorney until several months ago, when he frightened me into believing that I had to retain him. Now I know what I can and must do in order to get through the final phases of my divorce.

I especially appreciated your section about how the legal system works against us. I would never have known that had you not been honest enough to admit it. Thanks a lot, or as we say here in Hawaii, mahalo plenty.
